If a Yoga program starts early enough in pregnancy, the new mother will already be familiar, knowledgeable, and comfortable performing the postures that may prove beneficial throughout pregnancy.  Many poses introduced in Prenatal Yoga can help with common ailments often associated with pregnancy, especially in the third trimester.

The postures (Asana) and breathwork (Pranayama) help to prepare the body for birth. Together, Asana and Pranayama have balancing qualities, both internally and externally, that help maintain strength and flexibility while supporting mindful awareness and focus. Prenatal Yoga will not necessarily make birth easier or faster, but it can increase body and breath awareness to help you adjust to the demands of labor, birth, and beyond.

I have been teaching Iyengar Yoga since 1988 and have taught Prenatal Yoga, Mommy & Baby Yoga, Prenatal Yoga for pelvic floor awareness, and Pelvic floor classes and workshops for postpartum.  I am a mother myself, having had a natural birth, and now a grandmother with another grandbaby on the way in April 2027.
