March 12 - 20, 2027
9 days, 8 nights, gives us time for an incredible combination of Beach Yoga Retreat with options to dive or snorkel and a glamping Safari. Your Yoga instructors are Amanda Dee and K-Lea Gifford.

General Itinerary
The first part of your adventure takes place at a beachfront hotel in Zanzibar, Tanzania, Africa. This intimate, beautiful place has an aura of tranquillity and spaciousness, with its lush tropical garden.  A few short steps lead you to the beach, welcoming you into the turquoise blue sea of the Indian Ocean.
Sun Salute Africa is located in Zanzibar, on the northern tip of the island, which boasts some of the world’s most beautiful beaches. There are 2 yoga spaces facing west, overlooking the ocean, for perfect sightings of the setting sun while you practice.

Our next destination then takes us on a small flight from beach to bush, to the continent where we begin our 3-night 4-day safari to hopefully see the “Big Five”.
After the safari, we will spend one more night enjoying the magnificent views from a lodge nestled in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, just a few minutes away from the Machame Gate entrance to Kilimanjaro National Park.

Zanzibar - Indian Ocean views
Our beachfront hotel in Zanzibar is a short walk from numerous restaurants and bars. You will discover plenty of options for lunch. Each individually styled cottage has spacious rooms and large verandas. Breakfast can be served on your own cottage veranda. All rooms are double-occupancy, either with 2 single beds or a double bed upon request. A single supplement is also available for an extra fee. All rooms have an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, a ceiling fan and a refrigerator. Some cottages may have a sitting room.

Hammocks and loungers are distributed in the sunbathing area facing the beach, in the garden and around the swimming pool. Relax in a hammock with a good book, sunbathe in the area facing the turquoise-blue ocean and white beach, or lounge around the swimming pool in the garden. The tropical gardens have a mixture of coconut palms, Casuarina trees, Frangipani trees, banana trees and flower beds full of colorful plants set amidst the lawns.

Dining
Chef prepares meals that blend international and local cuisines. There is a variety of fish dishes as well as chicken, meats and vegetarian dishes. The daily fish is locally sourced in Nungwi, a nearby fishing village, and served at candlelit tables set close to the sea under a canopy of shade trees.
Snacks are available for extra cost throughout the day and can be taken either on the cottage veranda or whole sunbathing in the pool area. Those with serious food allergies or dietary restrictions may want to choose another destination for their retreat.

The Safari

Other Considerations

For this retreat to happen, we need at least 10 paying participants. The maximum capacity is 20.

INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT: Turkish Airlines is great and reliable. Unai stopped in Istanbul a couple of times, and he says it is absolutely worth it! Great food and amazing people. Turkish Airlines flights to Zanzibar (ZNZ) typically arrive at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport around 2:00 AM local time, after a layover in Istanbul (IST). Once your flights are booked, please send your itinerary so that arrangements can be made for you to be met and transferred to your beachside resort. Arrival anytime on March 12 is acceptable.

DO purchase travel insurance. K-Lea uses Allianz.

VACCINES: Vaccines are not mandatory. Only yellow fever is required if you are coming to Tanzania from a yellow fever "country" right before entering Zanzibar. Neither malaria nor Ebola has been around the area we will be visiting. There is no vaccine against malaria; the medications are just to “prevent," and apparently they are horrible!)

BRING: power adaptor for the plugs

CURRENCY: You can exchange money in Zanzibar village. There are many different places. Banks and ATMs in Dar es Salaam (capital - airport) or in Stone Town (main "city" in Zanzibar)

Always good to have some local currency, but dollars are welcome pretty much everywhere. If you pay in local currency, you can bargain, hence cheaper. Expect to do some shopping. Big shops and many restaurants accept credit cards. NOTE: There will be local beach vendors wandering around. Shop at your own risk of being approached several times if you buy from at least 1 vendor, the others will follow suit.

TIPPNG: Tips in Zanzibar are not expected, but welcome. To staff members and in restaurants in small amounts. Tips on safari are expected and almost "mandatory" for drivers and guides. Expect about $40 to $50 USD per person.
